Why Dance is important for mental health and wellbeing (in a nutshell!)

"Doctors should prescribe dance classes...for wellbeing"

(Matt Hancock, UK Health Secretary, November 2018)

Dance is being considered as a significant tool for enriching the lives of both children and adults and the reasons are simply because of the research proven benefits:

- For Children, regular dance classes/courses/workshops can have a positive impact on their health, education and life long skills such as confidence and socialisation.

- For Adults, the benefits of dance are not dissimilar - it boosts creativity/problem solving, it is fun, helps team-building, exercises the mind as well as the body and it provides a creative outlet to those dealing with mental health issues (to name just a few benefits!).

Schools and Workplaces alike are therefore increasingly turning to dance for purposes of promoting mental health and improving the wellbeing of children and adults.

A long time in the making but Dance is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves as a force for positive mental health and wellbeing.
